A joint organization of various unions on Friday called off the agitation saying that the state government has accepted most of their demands, but the district level unions claimed that the government has not accepted their main demand of OPS. National United Front (Saurashtra region) coordinator Mahesh Mori said, “Our main demand was OPS and why did the state government not address this issue on Friday.
Thousands of Gujarat government employees, including school teachers, took a ‘collective emergency leave’ on Saturday demanding implementation of the old pension scheme.
Unions representing teachers, panchayat health workers and revenue workers have been staging dharna for some time demanding restoration of OPS in the state.
This issue affects every employee of the state, so they have decided to join the collective emergency leave today.” He said that in Bhavnanagar alone, around 7000 government teachers were on leave on Saturday.
A large number of disgruntled workers took part in a rally in the Old Secretariat premises in Gandhinagar and did not go to work.
A protest worker said, “Our union leaders withdrew the agitation saying that all our demands have been accepted. But Hamari OPS Ki Mang Abhi Baqi Hai.
The government has agreed to give OPS only to those employees who joined the service before 2005.

पुरानी पेंशन योजना को लागू करने की मांग को लेकर स्कूली शिक्षकों समेत गुजरात सरकार के हजारों कर्मचारियों ने शनिवार को ‘सामूहिक आपातकालीन अवकाश’ लिया।
प्रदेश में ओपीएस की बहाली की मांग को लेकर शिक्षकों, पंचायत स्वास्थ्य कर्मियों और राजस्व कर्मियों का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाली यूनियनें पिछले कुछ समय से धरना दे रही हैं.
यह मुद्दा राज्य के हर कर्मचारी को प्रभावित करता है, इसलिए उन्होंने आज सामूहिक आपातकालीन अवकाश में शामिल होने का फैसला किया है.” उन्होंने कहा कि अकेले भावनानगर में शनिवार को करीब 7000 सरकारी शिक्षक छुट्टी पर थे.
गांधीनगर के पुराने सचिवालय परिसर में बड़ी संख्या में असंतुष्ट कार्यकर्ताओं ने रैली में हिस्सा लिया और काम पर नहीं गए.
एक प्रदर्शनकारी कार्यकर्ता ने कहा, “हमारे संघ के नेताओं ने यह कहते हुए आंदोलन वापस ले लिया कि हमारी सभी मांगें मान ली गई हैं। लेकिन हमारी ओपीएस की मांग अभी बाकी है।
सरकार केवल उन कर्मचारियों को ओपीएस देने पर सहमत हुई है जो 2005 से पहले सेवा में शामिल हुए थे।
